4 Wheel Drive Battle is yet another Nintendo game that took a rather simple concept and turned it into a full-fledged game. I don't mean to sound like I'm badmouthing the game from the start - in truth, the majority of games created from the fifteen year span of 1975 to 1990 revolved around taking a simple game design and then subtly changing the variants of the game, level by level, until one had an entire game based around it. This sort of ''revolutionary'' tactic worked for the likes of more popular titles, such as Super Mario Brothers and 1942, as well as titles that didn't get the fame I feel they deserved. Therefore, I have taken it upon myself to write about this game, with the hopes of enlightening those who have not heard of it and encouraging an interest in it.
I should first mention the fact that I picked this game up, as with many, many others, while on vacation in Thailand. I seem to get a LOT of games this way, but let's face it - sometimes importing games is easier and cheaper, especially when you're already in the country you're importing them from. That point having been made, I don't really know if this game was ever translated and brought to the U.S. Therefore, I don't know just how commonly-known this game is in any country, really - having not lived in Japan for a substantial amount of time makes it difficult to peg the likes and dislikes of the general populace. I, for one, liked the game, and so I have set out to write about it.
